Bridgestone Americas (BSAM) has opened its new $100m Americas Technical Center in Akron, Ohio, US, to develop advanced tire technologies.
The company said that the new facility has been built with the help of a variety of products from its building products division Firestone Building Products.
Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic said that the dedication of the Bridgestone Americas Technical Center reaffirms Akron's role as a center for innovation in the polymer industry.
"We have been pleased to partner with the company in the development of this project as well as the continued growth and development of the Firestone Park neighborhood around the new Bridgestone Americas Technical Center," Plusquellic said .
In 1988 Bridgestone had acquired The Firestone Tire & Rubber Company, which was founded by Harvey Firestone in Akron, Ohio in 1900 and completed the company's headquarters and technical center on Firestone Parkway in 1911.
